As a commercial dispute specialist, Andrew has extensive experience in advising on a wide range of issues, including breach of contract, professional negligence, warranty and indemnity claims arising from club sales and purchases, shareholder and partnership disputes, misrepresentation, and reputation management.
Prior to training as a lawyer, Andrew was involved in professional football for over a decade as an apprentice and professional footballer, following which he continued to play semi-professional football until recently. He is a member of the professional footballer’s association and has maintained contacts in the industry.
Andrew now works with a range of clients across the sports sector, including professional athletes, sports clubs, and stadiums. He combines his personal and professional sports experience, with legal expertise, to quickly identify the key underlying issues and find practical and commercial ways in which to resolve disputes.
Examples of where Andrew has supported clients in the sector include:
- Advising a football club on a number of reputation management/defamation issues, as well as a player transfer and ticketing disputes;
- Supporting a former world number 1 professional snooker player on a dispute regarding an alleged breach of personal appearance contract, regarding a proposed tournament appearance;
- Acting for Sheffield Sports Stadium Limited and other greyhound stadiums across the country in a dispute with their trainers and media partner regarding image licencing fees; and
- Acting for the estate of the former owner of Barnsley FC in the well-publicised, multimillion-pound dispute with the buyers of the club.
