Sam is based in Tauranga, New Zealand. While he now works in local government rather than private practice his experience is in selection and nomination appeals, doping cases and sports governance. He continues to sit on the boards of sports organisations, acts as a sports governance and sports law consultant and lectures a sports law paper at the University of Waikato, in addition to tutoring other law papers
