Wiggin's sports team combines specialist contentious, commercial and corporate expertise to deliver comprehensive legal services across the sporting landscape.

Commercial and Media Rights

With decades of experience, we are market leaders in the funding, creation and execution of high-value commercial opportunities that underpin modern sport. Our core strength lies in advising rights holders and buyers on audio-visual and data rights across every distribution platform, from traditional broadcast to direct-to-consumer services. We guide clients through the regulatory complexities that D2C operators face—broadcasting regulation, advertising compliance, music licensing, consumer law and data protection.

Our expertise extends to emerging exploitation strategies, including digital assets, immersive fan experiences, gamification and bespoke content creation.

Sponsorship, Marketing and Licensing

We act across the entire advertising, marketing and promotions space—for sponsors, rights holders and agencies—on traditional sponsorships and innovative technology-driven partnerships. Our licensing work spans long-form programming, branded content, computer games, betting operator arrangements, and talent deals.

Regulatory and Contentious

We advise and support international federations and national governing bodies on a wide range of regulatory matters, including the creation and implementation of new competition formats and regulations. Our team drafts sports rules, regulations and codes of conduct, supports investigations into rule breaches, prosecutes and advises on safeguarding frameworks. We have extensive experience of proceedings before the High Court, sports tribunals and the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Football

We have one of the UK's most experienced football legal teams, engaged in the sector's most complex issues since the early days of the Premier League. We’ve been heavily involved in corporate activity relating to football clubs for many years, collectively concluding over 60 club M&A and investment transactions, both buy and sell side, and providing support with receivables financing and other corporate matters.

We can also help when things go wrong – whether that’s high profile disputes with former players, managers and directors of clubs, through to more discrete disputes with suppliers, agents and sponsors – we have the experience to help.

Clients

Our clients include Premier League clubs, global governing bodies, major marketing agencies, broadcasters, bookmakers, video games developers, and digital sports businesses.

“A very strong team with great commercial insight that delivers on time.”
