Anthony Lo Surdo SC is an independent arbitrator, mediator and expert determiner practising from 8 Wentworth Chambers, Sydney; Lonsdale Chambers, Melbourne; and Arbitra International, London, Washington DC and Abu Dhabi.
A leading, internationally recognised sports law Silk, Anthony regularly sits as an arbitrator on international and domestic sport tribunals. His appointments include serving as an arbitrator and mediator with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (General and Football Lists), a member of the Football Australia (FA) Appeal Panel, Chair of the FA Disciplinary and Ethics Committee, Deputy Chair of the FA Dispute Resolution Chamber, Chair of the Football NSW Appeals Panel, and Senior Member of the National Sports Tribunal. He was recognised in the Lexology Index, Australia & New Zealand (2025) in the category of "Sports & Entertainment" and by the Lexology Global Index (2025) in the category of "Sports."
Anthony is a former member of the English FA Judiciary Panel and Sports Resolutions (UK) International Panel, and previously served as Disciplinary Counsel for the National Rugby League. He has also appeared as counsel for athletes and sports associations in anti-doping, disciplinary, regulatory and governance disputes.
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration, Anthony is also a Fellow of Resolution Institute (Aust. & NZ), accredited by it as a Grade 1 Arbitrator and Expert Determiner. He is qualified as an arbitrator in Dubai and Papua New Guinea, and sits on the panels of numerous leading international arbitral institutions, including the LCIA, QICCA, ADGM, DIAC, AIAC, THAC, SIAC, HKIAC, SAC, KCAB, JCAA and ACICA. Doyle's Guide has recognised him as a leading Australian arbitration silk from 2018 to 2025, primarily for his work as an arbitrator, and he has been appointed to over 100 domestic and international arbitral procedures.
As a mediator, Anthony is accredited as a Leading Mediator under the Australian Mediator and Dispute Resolution Accreditation Standards and as an Advanced Mediator by Resolution Institute. He is further certified by the International Mediation Institute, the Singapore International Mediation Institute, and the Supreme and National Courts of Papua New Guinea. Doyle's Guide has described him as a leading mediator every year from 2017 to 2025. Having first qualified as a mediator in 1993, he has mediated hundreds of disputes across a broad range of matters.
