At 2TG, our Sports Law team comprises specialist advocates who have extensive experience of acting for clients in high profile or sensitive matters across all major sports.

We have particular expertise in relation to football, rugby (union and league), motorsports (F1, MotoGP, motocross, Formula 3 and karting), cycling, equestrianism, cricket, skiing, gymnastics, martial arts, netball and tennis. Our clients include clubs, teams, match officials, governing bodies, event organisers, schools and many individual competitors.

Drawing on chambers’ established expertise in the complementary fields of commercial law, insurance, employment, property damage and personal injury, we provide a complete service to clients in complex sporting disputes.

These disputes often involve questions about the interpretation and application of the rules and regulations of major sports governing bodies, including the FA, Premier League, IRB, RFU, FIA, MSA, ACU, ECB, LTA and UCI. They also include contractual and disciplinary disputes arising from a wide range of sports specific matters.

We are especially well-known for conducting investigations in relation to breaches of regulation, disciplinary issues or allegations of discrimination and bullying, many of which are highly publicised. These investigations can be for clubs, national governing bodies, individual athletes and coaches across a wide range of sports including rugby, cricket, motorsports, tennis, golf, gymnastics and football.

The Sports Law Team at 2TG acts in group litigation concerning alleged breaches of duties of care and negligence by regulatory and governing bodies. The team has been instructed by World Rugby and the Football Association in relation to the disputes concerning head and contact injuries allegedly sustained while playing sport. Claimants allege that these injuries resulted in advanced neurological and neurodegenerative disorders such as early onset dementia, epilepsy, motor neurones disease and Parkinson’s disease. 

We are part of the Sport Resolutions UK Pro Bono Legal Service, a network of lawyers who provide pro-bono legal advice and representation to athletes, coaches, team officials and other individuals appearing before Sport Resolutions and other sport specific tribunals. Our members also regularly speak and publish on Sports Law topics and work closely with LawInSport, an educational media business providing expert commentary and analysis on the latest legal issues and developments in sport.

Several barristers in the team are qualified to accept Direct Access instructions in appropriate cases without requiring solicitor involvement.
