Karen is a partner in our corporate team. She advises clients across the sports sector, with particular expertise in football. Karen has a long track record of advising on mid-market corporate M&A including the sale and acquisition of football clubs and stadiums, equity investments & shareholders agreements, corporate governance, reorganisations, and joint ventures.
Karen’s clients in sport are the companies, businesses and families that own and operate sports clubs and other businesses that operate in the sector, as well as some sports clubs which are unincorporated associations and charities.
In addition to her sports expertise, Karen also has extensive experience in the broader leisure and hospitality sector. She has vast experience of acquisitions, disposals and investments involving hotels, leisure parks and sports centres and has advised on the corporate aspects of multi-sports projects involving football, rugby and tennis. Karen has also acted on the sale of several golf clubs both as stand-alone transactions and as part of hotel resorts.
Recent examples of where Karen has supported clients include:
- Leading on the sale of Reading Football Club by Renhe Sports Management Co Ltd to Redwood Holdings in a transaction which included the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground.
- Advising The Rothwell Family on their acquisition of Oldham Athletic Association Football Club and the simultaneous acquisition of the company that holds Boundary Park Stadium and surrounding land.
