Kieran Mercer

Kieran is a dispute resolution lawyer with substantial experience advising on IP, contractual, regulatory and insurance disputes for clients across the sports sector. He has worked on cases in the High Court, as well as arbitration proceedings, including at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Kieran has worked with a broad range of clients including elite athletes, sports agents/agencies, club investors/owners, clubs, governing bodies and rights holders. Whilst his primary experience has been in football, he has expertise across a range of team and individual sports, including rugby, boxing, tennis, and padel, as well as e-sports.
Examples of the ways in which Kieran has supported clients include:
- Supporting a Championship footballer on contractual and insurance matters arising from a career-ending illness;
- Acting for a commercial sports agent on a contractual dispute with a former client relating to unpaid commission; and
- Assisting a Premiership rugby player with submissions to England Rugby following a disciplinary issue.
Prior to training as a lawyer, Kieran played for professional and semi-professional football clubs for 15 years and was also in the NCAA college system in the USA. As a result, he has a strong domestic and international network in football.
