Maike Herrlein

Maike Herrlein is a German-qualified sports lawyer and associate at ARNECKE SIBETH DABELSTEIN in Frankfurt who combines in-depth legal expertise with first-hand experience from elite and grassroots sport. As a member of the ASD Sports team, she advises on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious sports law matters, including arbitration and litigation proceedings, regulatory advice, and the drafting of legal opinions.

A key focus of Maike’s work is Safe Sport and athlete safeguarding. Together with Alexander Engelhard, she co-authored a legal opinion addressing fundamental questions of Safe Sport, which serves as a foundational framework for the emerging Safe Sport regulation in Germany. Through her work, Maike is closely involved in shaping the legal structures aimed at protecting athletes and ensuring integrity and safeguarding in sport in Germany and beyond.

Maike holds a law degree from the University of Freiburg and an LL.M. in Sports Law from the University of Bayreuth. During her postgraduate studies, she focused on competition law, data protection law and human rights issues in sport.

Maike has worked for German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB), FIFPRO and the Hessian Data Protection Authority. In addition to her legal qualifications, she has an extensive sporting background as a former competitive athlete and licensed swimming coach, enabling her to advise clients with both legal precision and a deep understanding of the realities of sport.
