Rhodri is an accomplished and highly experienced sports lawyer. Before joining to establish and lead the Carbon Sport practice group in 2025, he had twenty years’ experience of working in in-house roles within the sports sector, in football (at UEFA and The Football Association) and rugby union (at the Welsh Rugby Union). In his last role at the Welsh Rugby Union, Rhodri had Executive responsibility for both the Legal and Commercial Teams. He has also acted as a Director and Company Secretary.
His sports experience is broad, with a particular focus on commercial matters. His practice covers sponsorship arrangements, endorsement agreements, image rights, commercial rights strategy and exploitation, agency and representation support, participation issues, media rights, event hosting and governance matters. His experience within rugby union provides an unique understanding of the needs of athletes, teams, brands, rights holders and investors, all with an international dimension.
He is a previous winner of The Lawyer’s In-House Lawyer of the Year.
Rhodri is a Trustee of The Geraint Thomas Cycling Trust and has supported Aspiring Solicitors as an Ambassador and a mentor. In his spare time, he coaches rugby union and football and is a Parent Governor at a local secondary school.
