The UCI Provisionally Suspends Rider Giovanni Carboni Following ABP Findings

International Testing Authority (ITA) logo

The International Testing Agency (ITA) acknowledges the decision of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) to provisionally suspend Italian rider Giovanni Carboni in accordance with the UCI Anti-Doping Rules, following unexplained abnormalities detected in his Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) in 2024.

The Athlete Biological Passport is an individual electronic record in which the results of doping controls collected over time are collated and analysed. ABP cases are prosecuted based on the opinion of an independent Expert Panel from the Athlete Passport Management Unit (APMU) of Lausanne, which is associated with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited Laboratory of Lausanne.

The ITA manages the ABP programme on behalf of the UCI, which has delegated its anti-doping programme to the ITA while retaining responsibility for results management and the prosecution of anti-doping rule violations.

The ITA will not comment further while the proceedings are ongoing.
