Bwin Loses

Austrian gambling company, Bwin has lost its case before the European Court of Justice against Portugal’s state controlled sports betting monopoly. It had challenged Portugal’s right to operate a state-wide monopoly and exclude other companies from taking internet bets. In essence, it means that governments can bar foreign online bookmakers from offering bets in their jurisdiction.
