Further EU Law Challenge To The Legality Of FIFA’s Transfer Regulations (The Lassana Diarra Case)

A new case[1] concerning the compatibility of FIFA’s rules with EU law has been added to the list of ongoing similar proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union (ECJ). EU’s top court has been asked to clarify whether FIFA’s international transfer rules and the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) rules are sufficiently respectful of EU laws protecting the free movement of persons and prohibiting agreements which restrict competition.
