FC Lugano's protest rejected

The match between FC Lugano and FC Lausanne-Sport will not be replayed. The SFL Disciplinary Committee has rejected the Ticino club's protest.

On September 22, FC Lugano officially confirmed its protest filed during the match on Wednesday, September 17 against FC Lausanne-Sport (

1-1

). The Ticino club denounced "an erroneous use in violation of the VAR protocol" and requested a replay of the match.

Today, the SFL Disciplinary Committee rejected this protest and therefore the requisitions made by the Ticino club with the following analysis: "After committing a foul, Lausanne player Karim Sow was given a second warning by the referee, synonymous with a red card. Given the situation, the referee consulted the VAR images to verify whether the foul in question did not constitute a direct red card. There is no reason to deviate from the referee's statements in this regard. Noting a potential offside situation, the VAR also showed the referee the images related to this, the latter noting that the Lugano striker was indeed in an irregular position. The referee then decided to cancel the second yellow card, therefore the red card, and restarted the match."

And to summarize: "All questions of assessment of the foul, its interpretation, its consequences, as well as a possible obvious refereeing error, are matters of fact which are definitively decided by the refereeing body without this Commission having any right of review." This decision is final for the authorities of the Swiss Football League.
