Gillian Burns

Gillian is a Managing Associate in the employment and immigration team at Ward Hadaway. 

She is a trusted specialist who has particular interest in the sports and education sectors, advising her clients on the full range of employment and immigration issues throughout the employment lifecycle.  Her work covers strategic work force planning and recruitment to termination and enforcement of post termination restrictive covenants on both a contentious and non-contentious footing. 

Gillian's significant experience includes drafting and advising upon contracts, collective terms and conditions and policies and procedures, negotiations with both unionised and non-unionised workforces in respect of collective redundancies and proposals to change terms and conditions of employment, and TUPE. 

She is a member of the firm's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (EDI) and has provided bespoke EDI training to a range of commercial clients.

Gillian has completed equal pay and right to work and sponsor licence management audits and recommends proactive remedial steps so that her clients can meet often complex compliance requirements when commercial risk areas be identified.

Gillian's recent sports experience includes:

• Advising a women's football club on their International Sportspersons' sponsor licence and supporting players in their subsequent visa applications;
• Securing a skilled worker sponsor licence for a football club and supporting a range of the club's employees including senior executive level individuals and their dependants in their visa applications;
• Providing training on right to work and sponsor management compliance to a football club; and
• Compiling an equal pay audit.
