Sports Lawyer in the Spotlight: Aahna Mehrotra

For this edition of Sports Lawyer In The Spotlight, we interviewed Aahna Mehrotra. Aahna is the Founder and Principal Lawyer of AM Sports Law & Management Co. (AMSL), the Mumbai boutique she established in 2017 after a decade spent building a specialism that, when she started, barely existed in India.

Called to the Bar in 2011, she has since worked on the formation of almost two dozen sports leagues at home and abroad, among them the Caribbean Premier League, Guyana Super League, the Indian Racing Festival and Ultimate Table Tennis, on whose Governing Council she sits. Her practice runs from media and broadcast rights, franchise agreements and endorsement deals through to the less glamorous end of the business: governance, integrity, anti-corruption, anti-doping and age-fraud frameworks. She served as Vice Chairperson of India's National Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel, contributed to the second edition of Law and Sports in India (LexisNexis), and sits on the IFHA Council on Anti-Illegal Betting and Related Crime.

Aahna is also a LawInSport Editorial Board member.

She came to the law from the field, having represented India's Under-19 women's cricket team and played tennis at state level. In August 2026 she was named to the Leaders in Sport "Leaders Under 40" Class of 2026, one of very few India-based individuals to be recognised.
