16 September 2015 – The World Anti-Doping Agency is co-hosting the 2015 “International Athlete Forum for 2020” with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Japan Anti-Doping Agency on Thursday 1 October and Friday 2 October 2015.

This two-day forum will focus on the voice and actions of role model athletes joined by members of WADA’s Athlete Committee and JADA’s Athlete Committee, top athletes as well as young athletes in Japan to highlight the values of sport and their importance within society.

The forum will be held in parallel with the WADA Regional Office Directors Meeting in Tokyo, and also at the launch of the Agency for Sport, a newly-created specific governmental agency for sport. The forum is part of PLAY TRUE 2020, Sport for Tomorrow (the Tokyo 2020 legacy project).

Objectives of the Forum:

  • The Athlete-centered focus will be highlighted with the athlete voice and actions. Role model athletes will join the two-day forum; The conference-based Day 1 will include WADA & JADA Athlete Committee members, including Claudia Bokel and Koji Murofushi, discussing their commitment and passion for clean sport and the integrity of sport.
  • WADA Director General, David Howman will provide the keynote speech. The contribution of WADA’s Regional Offices to the global anti-doping effort will also be highlighted, as well as each continent’s approach towards clean athletes and the integrity of sport.
  • Day 2 will see the involvement of Japanese youth athletes and an activity-based session. Youth athletes from across Japan will be joined by role model athletes, including Olympians and Paralympians from both WADA’s & JADA’s Athlete Committee and the top Japanese athletes who have committed to clean sport through JADA’s activities.
  • “PLAY TRUE 2020”, anti-doping pillar of Sport for Tomorrow Tokyo 2020’s legacy project, is focused on disseminating the spirit and values of sport and youth-centered message.
  • Athletes from Japan, especially youth athletes, will hear values-based messages from WADA Athlete Committee members, as well as how best to disseminate ‘values of Sport’ messages.
  • The forum will also be the occasion for introducing PLAY TRUE 2020 “PLAY TRUE TORCH RELAY” – as part of the Tokyo 2020 legacy project: the athletes relaying their messages on “Truth in Sport” and “Truth in ME” by passing on the Japanese makimono scroll. https://playtrue2020-sp4t.jp/
