Athletics Athlete Suspended for the Presence of Multiple Substances

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) announced today that David Freake, an athletics athlete, received a four-year sanction for an anti-doping rule violation. The athlete’s urine sample, collected during in-competition doping control on May 26, 2019, revealed the presence of GW501516, 2-4-dinitrophenol and recombinant EPO, all prohibited substances, and ephedrine, a specified substance.

In response to the CCES’s notification of the adverse analytical finding, Mr. Freake waived his right to a hearing and accepted the proposed sanction, which terminates on October 10, 2023. During the sanction period, the athlete, who resides in St. John’s, NL, is ineligible to participate in any capacity with any sport signatory to the Canadian Anti-Doping Program (CADP), including training with teammates.

Le Centre canadien pour l’éthique dans le sport (CCES) a annoncé aujourd’hui que David Freake, un athlète d’athlétisme, s’est vu imposer une suspension de quatre ans pour une violation des règles antidopage. L’échantillon d’urine de l’athlète, prélevé dans le cadre d’un contrôle du dopage en compétition le 26 mai 2019, a révélé la présence de GW501516, de 2-4-dinitrophénol et d'EPO de synthèse, des substances interdites, ainsi que de l’éphédrine, une substance spécifiée.

En réponse à la notification du résultat d’analyse anormal par le CCES, M. Freake a renoncé à son droit à une audience et a accepté la sanction proposée, qui prend fin le 10 octobre 2023. Durant la période de la sanction, il est interdit à l’athlète, qui réside à St. John’s à Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador, de participer à quelque titre que ce soit à un sport signataire du Programme canadien antidopage (PCA), y compris de s’entraîner avec ses coéquipiers.
