Press Release

UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) today announced a new values based education programme in partnership with the British Olympic Association (BOA) and British Paralympic Association (BPA), Get Set for the Spirit of Sport. The programme encourages 10 to 14 year olds to develop a core set of sporting values, enabling them to make the right decisions on and off the field of play.

Get Set for the Spirit of Sport provides primary and secondary schools with free resources which support the aims and objectives of the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code and UKAD’s 100% me anti-doping education programme whilst linking into the National Curriculum areas of study. Central to the programme are the Olympic and Paralympic values of respect, friendship, excellence, inspiration, courage, equality and determination.

By exploring these values, young people will be encouraged to examine their decisions and look at how healthy living and active lifestyles impact health and wellbeing, the social benefits of sport, and how they can carry these values into other aspects of their lives.

Get Set for the Spirit of Sport contains a mixture of open-ended, differentiated and exciting classroom based activities and practical activity ideas for three different age groups of young people aged between 10 and 14. Each age category contains a series of six lessons, with additional activity sheets for those who cannot take part in physical activities.

Engaging case studies support lesson activities and will challenge young people to consider their behaviour, and the behaviour of others.

Minister for Sport, Tracey Crouch said:

"It's essential our star athletes of tomorrow are educated on the dangers of doping and the value of clean sport."

Get Set for the Spirit of Sport is a great way for young people to understand the importance of competing on a level playing field and I would encourage schools across the country to get involved."
