SLAM 2027 Launches Eighth Edition as Registration Opens

Athlete Welfare & Development Panel at the LawInSport Global Summit 2025

LawInSport and the Organising Committee of the 8th Edition of the Sports Law Arbitration Moot Competition (SLAM) are pleased to announce that registration is now open for SLAM 2027.
The competition culminates in the Grand Finals, where the top 8 teams will get the opportunity to present before some of the most experienced sports arbitrators at the premier institution for sports dispute resolution, the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. For participants, the opportunity to present arguments in a professional arbitral setting offers a valuable insight into the demands of sports dispute resolution and the standards expected of practitioners in the field.

SLAM is designed to develop the next generation of sports lawyers by combining legal research, written submissions, oral advocacy and practical training. The competition is based on real-world sporting disputes, requiring students to engage with relevant CAS case law and the rules governing international sport.

The competition has attracted participation from around the world. Last edition, SLAM saw:

  • 77 teams from more than 30 countries
  • 80+ CAS arbitrators and 80+ advocates judge written submissions
  • 40 CAS arbitrators judge the oral rounds

The quality and experience of the judging panel are central to the competition. Judges bring expertise from CAS and other arbitral bodies, as well as practical experience in sports dispute resolution. From the quarter-finals onwards, all rounds are judged by experienced CAS arbitrators, giving students the opportunity to receive feedback and demonstrate their skills before leading practitioners.

“Sports law is a field where the ability to analyse complex rules, construct persuasive arguments and present a case effectively can make a real difference,” said Manan Agrawal, Director of SLAM & Deputy Director of Content at LawInSport.

“SLAM gives students the opportunity to develop these skills through practical training and rigorous competition, while connecting with experienced arbitrators and advocates from across the sports law community. In doing so, we can offer participants an experience that bridges the gap between studying sports law and practising it.”

The 2027 edition is organised by LawInSport and presented by Kellerhals Carrard. Open to eligible students worldwide, SLAM aims to make sports law and arbitration more accessible, with financial assistance available to eligible teams to help ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent participation.
