The ITA reports that baseball player Jean Carlos Herrera Malambo has been sanctioned with a 3-year period of ineligibility
The International Testing Agency (ITA), on behalf of World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), reports that Colombian baseball player Jean Carlos Herrera Malambo has accepted a three-year period of ineligibility after testing positive for the prohibited substance stanozolol.
The ITA, on behalf of WBSC, confirms that the athlete Jean Carlos Herrera Malambo has agreed¹ to the consequences imposed for his anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
As previously reported, the athlete tested positive for the prohibited substance stanozolol after providing an out-of-competition sample on 8 November 2025. He was provisionally suspended on 20 January 2026.
The athlete did not challenge the ADRV and agreed with the consequences proposed by the ITA. Due to his early admission, the athlete was entitled to a one-year reduction of the otherwise four-year period of ineligibility usually imposed for an ADRV for the presence of stanozolol as set forth in article 10.8.1 of the WBSC anti-doping rules.² Accordingly, the case was resolved via an acceptance of consequences.
The athlete’s period of ineligibility is from 20 January 2026 until 19 January 2029. In addition, all the athlete’s individual competitive results from 8 November 2025 are disqualified, including forfeiture of medals, points and prizes.
Parties with a right of appeal may challenge the decision before the appeals division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in accordance with article 13.2.3 of the WBSC anti-doping rules.
The ITA will not comment further on this case.
