The ITA reports that bobsleigh athlete DeVaughn McEwan has been sanctioned with a ban of 3 years and 9 months

International Testing Authority (ITA)

The International Testing Agency (ITA), on behalf of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF), reports that Canadian bobsleigh athlete DeVaughn McEwan has accepted a period of ineligibility of 3 years and 9 months after testing positive for exogenous boldenone and its metabolite.

The athlete tested positive for exogenous boldenone and metabolite after providing a sample on 1 August 2024 during an out-of-competition doping control under the testing authority of the IBSF. The athlete was provisionally suspended with effect from 3 September 2024.

Boldenone is prohibited under the WADA Prohibited List as S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids. Boldenone is prohibited at all times (in- and out-of-competition) and is a non-specified substance. Boldenone is a bulking agent which stimulates muscle growth and assists the recovery of the athlete after strenuous effort.

The matter was resolved by way of a Case Resolution Agreement (CRA) pursuant to Article 10.8.2 of the IBSF anti-doping rules (IBSF ADR).¹

Pursuant to the CRA, the athlete admitted the ADRV and accepted the agreed consequences, namely a period of ineligibility of 3 years and 9 months from 1 August 2024 until 1 May 2028 and the disqualification of competitive results from the date of the sample collection (1 August 2024) until the start of the provisional suspension (3 September 2024).

In accordance with Article 10.8.2 of the IBSF ADR, the decision by the IBSF and the World Anti-Doping Agency to enter the CRA, as well as the agreed reduction and commencement date of the period of ineligibility, are not subject to appeal.

The ITA will not comment further on this case.
