Ansgar Faßbender, LL.M. currently works as a trainee lawyer for Bird & Bird in the Media, Entertainment and Sport practice group in Düsseldorf, Germany. He supports the practice group primarily in advising various associations, clubs and agents on relevant legal matters. He also assists arbitrator Prof. Dr. Martin Schimke, LL.M. in proceedings at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne. Ansgar regularly speaks at sports conferences focusing on the law governing football intermediaries. 

Prior to his work for Bird & Bird he worked for a law office specialised in the field of Anti-Doping. There, he also assisted the FIVB tribunal judge in his work. 
 
During his law studies in Bonn and Edinburgh Ansgar specialised in arbitration, European (competition) law, international private law and the law governing football intermediaries. In Edinburgh he gained an LL.M. with merits. His master thesis focused on a future reform of the FIFA Regulations on Working with Intermediaries. In particular, he examined whether the respective rules of the NFL Players Association could act as a role model for FIFA, or if such rules would violate European competition law. He extended his knowledge in sports law during educational visits at the German Institute of Sports Law lead by Prof. Martin Nolte at the German Sports University in Cologne.
 
During an internship at the German Institution for Arbitration (DIS) he gained knowledge about the sport related proceedings before the German Court for Arbitration in Sports. In 2012/13, he also was a member of the team of the University of Bonn in the Willem C Vis Moot Court competition, which was awarded for one of their written submissions.
 
Ansgar gained operational experience in sports business through his pro bono work as the CEO of the football club ASG Uni Bonn e.v. Prior to this engagement, he was a longstanding member of the club’s board.
