Ben Van Rompuy

Dr. Ben Van Rompuy is a senior researcher and consultant at the T.M.C. Asser Instituut, Asser International Sports Law Center (The Hague) and senior associate researcher at iMinds-SMIT (Studies on Media, Information and Telecommunication), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Brussels).

He holds a doctoral degree in law and masters’ degrees in international and European law and in communication studies. He has published widely on the interplay between sport, media rights, and EU (competition) law and regularly acts as a legal expert on these issues for media companies, sports organizations, and public authorities. His major work is Economic Efficiency: The Sole Concern of Modern Antitrust Policy? Non-efficiency Considerations under Article 101 TFEU” (Wolters Kluwer Law & Business, 2013), which explores the role of considerations related to the specificity of sport in EU competition law enforcement.

Ben has held visiting positions at Georgetown University Law Center and New York University. He also served as a consultant in international antitrust for the US Federal Trade Commission and as a research fellow of the American Antitrust Institute. He is member of the editorial board of The International Sports Law Journal and the "ASSER International Sports Law" and "Information Technology and Law" book series.
