Desh Gaurav Sekhri
Desh Gaurav Sekhri is one of the first Sports Attorneys in India, and he leads the Sports law practice at J. Sagar Associates (“JSA”), a premier national law firm, since he joined in February, 2009. He is also the author of “Not Out! The incredible story of the Indian Premier League”.
JSA’s Sports practice is the largest dedicated practice in the country, and has clients that include the NBA’s India initiative, Hero MotoCorp, and Dempo Sports Club among others.
Desh is formerly a top-ranked tennis player in India and Canada, and a former national finalist in the Men’s Junior Nationals. Desh completed his high-school from Modern School, Barakhamba Road in New Delhi, and went to the U.S. on a tennis scholarship after completing his B.A. (Honours) in Economics from St. Stephen’s College. He then completed his degree in law from the College of William & Mary in Virginia, with a Juris Doctorate in Sports, Entertainment and Corporate law. He is licensed to practice law in the state of New York, and in New Delhi. He has significant industry experience and is directly involved on the business side of sports, along with being a member of the FICCI Sports Committee.
Desh frequently writes in numerous leading publications, with over 100 published opinion pieces in various dailies. He has been quoted and has contributed on numerous occasions to articles on the business of sports, sports law, entertainment law, policy, international politics, and economics. He has also been interviewed and featured in publications as a leading industry practitioner in the sports law and business of sports domain. In the growing space of sports, entertainment and the law/business component to both, he would be able to contribute regularly on topics in these domains, among others.
