Timothy Killen

Tim was called to the Bar in 2010 and is developing a successful commercial practice focusing on the regulatory and contractual aspects of sports litigation. Before coming to the Bar, Tim taught law, first at the University of Birmingham and later at Birkbeck College, University of London at which time he was also a visiting lecturer at the University of Onsnabrück in Germany.

Tim has practiced abroad and has rights of audience before the Courts of the Dubai International Financial Centre, as well as experience of international arbitral proceedings, both at the contentious and enforcement stages. This experience, combined with his extensive academic background in private and commercial law allows Tim to bring an informed and innovative approach to the sports cases in which he is instructed.

Tim has experience in providing advice, assistance and representation in obtaining and resisting emergency injunctive relief and has a particular interest in sponsorship contracts and the operation of Morals Clauses therein.

Tim speaks Swiss-German and good High German and accepts instructions in both contentious and non-contentious matters.

Recent cases in which he has been involved include:

Force India F1 Ltd and Another v Futurecom Event and Marketing GmbH (High Court, QBD, 2011), a cross-border contractual claim brought on behalf of Force India.

Advised and represented the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) in relation to their liability for an accident occurring at the Thruxton motor racing circuit.
