Sunday, 03 April 2011

ausanne, 1 March 2011 – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rendered its final decision in the arbitration between Sevilla FC, Udinese Calcio and Morgan de Sanctis. The parties have been in dispute following the decision of the Italian goalkeeper to terminate his contract with Udinese in June 2007, although it was in force until 30 June 2010, and to sign with Sevilla FC. The case was first submitted to FIFA which decided on 3 June 2010 that De Sanctis and Sevilla had to pay EUR 3’933’134 to Udinese.

The three parties then appealed to the CAS which reviewed the FIFA decision in the light of its jurisprudence relating to breach of contract in football matters and determined that the financial compensation due jointly by the goalkeeper and Sevilla should be fixed at EUR 2’250’055.
