Alistair McHenry

Partner and Head of Sport

Alistair is a Partner and Head of Sport at Tyr, a boutique law firm based in Leeds. Alistair has over 14 years’ experience in all types of sports law work, specialising in general dispute, litigation, integrity and contentious regulatory work. His most prominent case was acting for Crystal Palace in its dispute with former manager Tony Pulis: Pulis v Crystal Palace | [2016] EWHC 2999 (Comm) | England and Wales High Court (Commercial Court) | Judgment | Law | CaseMine).

Alistair is author of the chapter on injuries in Football & the Law (published by Bloomsbury and edited by Nick De Marco KC), both the First Edition (2018) and the Second Edition (2022) and was cited with approval as an authority in sports injuries in the High Court case of Fulham FC v Jones [2022] EWHC 1108 (QB) (sportslawbulletin.org).

Alistair has been on Sport Resolutions’ Panel of Arbitrators and Mediators since April 2018 and regularly takes appointments as sole arbitrator and panel member, see for instance the EFL Disciplinary Commission’s written reasons at: 221014---efl-v-rochdale--ors-decision-final_redacted.pdf.

Tyr is a member of Sport Resolutions’ safeguarding case management programme, SCMP Legal Advice Service.

Alistair has other ongoing appointments including Vice Chair of the Appeals Panel for Table Tennis England, Judicial Officer for the Welsh Rugby Union and as member of Basketball England’s Disciplinary Panel. He is also a director of British Association of Sport and Law, lecturing on gambling on its postgraduate diploma in sports law. He has been on the Law in Sport Editorial Board since July 2018.
