How Europe’s Major Football Leagues Are Regulating Fixtures & Sanctioning Clubs For Outbreaks Of Covid-19
The author recently wrote on the successful appeals of St. Mirren FC and Kilmarnock FC[1] against match forfeits imposed on them by the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) for Covid-19-related breaches, after infections in their squads forced them to miss fixtures.
Given the global impact of Covid-19, it is unsurprising that the SPFL is not the only football league that has had to consider how to regulate fixtures and sanction clubs for coronavirus outbreaks. This article compares the approaches being taken by other leagues and governing bodies across Europe, specifically in:
