Matuzalem – The CAS increases FIFA DRC Award on FIFA Article 17 case

On 19 May 2009 the Court of Arbitration for Sport published the long awaited decision in Shakhtar Donetsk v Matuzalem & Real Zaragoza SAD. The case was awaited since the publication of the previous Article 17 CAS decision, Webster. In this case, the CAS has increased the compensation ordered by the FIFA DRC (€6.8million) and ordered that Matuzalem should pay the sum of €11,858,934 to Shakhtar Donetsk.
