Serie A’s 2023 Sale of Broadcast Rights: Opportunities and Challenges for Italian Football

Throughout 2023, the Italian Serie A football league (“Serie A” or “League”) has focused on the completion of its sale of domestic broadcast rights, from the 2024/2025 season to the 2028/2029 season.[1]
This article provides for a broad overview of Serie A’s 2023 collective sale of media rights, which ultimately led to DAZN and Sky being confirmed as the League’s rightsholders for the following five seasons. It also focuses on the applicable law, both in Italy and at European level, to the collective sale of media rights.
