Why Did The Royal Spanish Football Federation Get Fined For Releasing A Zoom Recording?
On February 16th, 2022, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (“Federation” or “the RFEF”) has been found guilty of breaking the European Regulation (EU) 2016/679 regarding the Protection of Natural Persons with regard to the treatment of personal data and the free movement of such Data (General Data Protection Regulations, “GDPR”) and the Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 on the Protection of Personal Data and guarantee of digital rights (LOPDGDD)1.
The RFEF was sanctioned by the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD)2 with a total fine of €200,000 for sharing the recording of a meeting held on Zoom without the knowledge or consent of the participants.
