We are excited to announce that the 5th LawInSport’s Annual Conference ‘Understand The Rules Of The Game 2019’ will be hosted at the Royal Institution of Great Britain, Green Park (Mayfair), London on 12th & 13th September 2019.
This two day conference will build on the success of the previous annual conferences at which over 300 leading sports lawyers, sports executives, academics, students and athletes networked and discussed the key issues and developments in international sports law.

Sean Cottrell, CEO & Founder, LawInSport
Sean is the founder and CEO of LawInSport. Founded in 2010, LawInSport has become the "go to sports law website" for sports lawyers and sports executives across the world.
Sean works with lawyers and law firms to create targeted and accessible legal content, develop marketing strategies and provide training on digital media. Sean is a visiting lecturer of sports business and sports ethics at Ithica College and Syracuse University London campuses.
Sean has written articles and produced podcasts and videos on the regulation of boxing, match-fixing, doping, sports governance, third party ownership in football, sports sponsorship and social media.
Before founding LawInSport.com Sean studied sport science and law after working in the legal sector for 15 years in finance and marketing. Sean has worked for some of leading international law firms including DLA Piper, Simmons & Simmons, CMS Cameron McKenna and SJ Berwin. His passions are law, sport, marketing, education, technology and charity.
Carrie Donaghy, Head of Commercial Legal, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team
Carrie is the Head of Commercial Legal at Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team. Her role provides legal support to all areas of the business including the commercial operations and the sporting and technical areas. Carrie joined the team in 2013 as a Legal Assistant, started a Training Contract with them in 2014 and qualified in 2015, having been the first ever Trainee Solicitor in a Formula One Team.
Since qualifying in 2015, Carrie is now Head of Commercial Legal at the team and has worked with some of Motorsport’s household names such as Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Valtteri Bottas.
Maureen Weston, Professor of Law, Director, Entertainment Media & Sports Law Program, School of Law, Pepperdine University
Maureen Weston is Professor of Law at Pepperdine University School of Law and Director of the Entertainment, Media & Sports Dispute Resolution Project. She received her J.D. from the University of Colorado, and B.A. in Economics/Political Science at the University of Denver.
Professor Weston teaches courses on arbitration, mediation, negotiation, international dispute resolution, legal ethics, and U.S. and international sports law. She serves as Faculty Advisor to the Sports & Entertainment Law Society and Dispute Resolution Journal, and as coach for ICC Mediation Advocacy and Sports & Entertainment Law Negotiation competitions.
Weston has taught law at the University of Oklahoma, University of Colorado, University of Las Vegas Nevada, Hamline, and in Oxford, England. Prior to teaching, Weston practiced law with Holme Roberts & Owen and Faegre & Benson in Colorado. She is actively involved in programs furthering opportunities for students to gain experience in negotiation, mediation and arbitration. Her service membership includes subcommittee chair for the ABA, Law School Division, Arbitration Competition, AALS Sports Law Executive Committee, and former chair of the ABA Dispute Resolution Education Committee and Representation in Mediation Competition. She is a member on the Boards of Directors at the University of Colorado School of Law Alumni Board, the National Sports Law Institute at Marquette School of Law, and Malibu Little League. A frequent speaker at conferences, Weston is co-author of casebooks on sports law and arbitration and has written numerous articles in the area of Olympic and International Sports Arbitration, disability law, sports law, and dispute resolution.
Nick De Marco QC, Barrister, Blackstone Chambers
Nick is rated a leading silk in Sports Law and is a member of Blackstone Chambers.
He has advised and acted for a number of sports governing bodies, athletes, most Premier League football clubs and many world-class football players in commercial and regulatory disputes.
He regularly appears in the UK Courts and football, rugby, cricket, boxing, athletics, horseracing, doping and a number of other arbitral and disciplinary tribunals, including CAS in Switzerland.
He is acknowledged as having special expertise in all aspects of football and has been involved in most of the recent high profile cases in the sport. He has particular expertise in financial regulation including financial fair play, disputes relating to football agents, player disputes and disciplinary issues, doping in football, commercial disputes between clubs and third parties and Third Party Ownership of football players.
Nick has a special interest in sports arbitration. He acted for the ECB in the leading case in the field (ECB v Kaneria) and acts for and against a number of sports regulatory bodies in arbitration disputes as well as siting as an arbitrator for a number of sports. He is also involved in a number of high profile media rights disputes in sport.
