To mark National Children’s Week, Sport Integrity Australia has today launched its inaugural Child Safeguarding in Sport Induction e-Learning course.

The e-Learning course complements the National Integrity Framework Child Safeguarding Policy and has been developed for any person and any organisation who is bound by the policy, such as National Sporting Organisations (NSOs), State Sporting Organisations (SSOs), clubs/affiliated bodies, boards, committees, participants, employees, coaches, contractors, officials, and support personnel.

COMPLIANCE REVIEW COMMITTEE ALSO MET ON 24-25 OCTOBER

As part of a circulatory vote that ended yesterday, the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA’s)  Executive Committee (ExCo) approved the 7 October recommendation from the Agency’s independent Compliance Review Committee (CRC) to add the following three National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs) to the compliance ‘watchlist’[1]:

  • German Community of Belgium;
  • Montenegro; and
  • Romania.

The ITA is granted observer status of the Monitoring Group for the Council of Europe’s Anti-Doping Convention

The International Testing Agency (ITA) has been granted observer status with the monitoring group of the Anti-Doping Convention of the Council of Europe. The convention lays down binding rules on the 47 member states of the Council of Europe and 5 other states (Australia, Belarus, Canada, Morocco, and Tunisia) with a view to harmonise anti-doping regulations and to promote the important role of sport in moral and physical education as well as in international understanding.

Swimming Australia Appoint Eugenie Buckley as CEO

Swimming Australia has appointed experienced sports administrator Eugenie Buckley as CEO of the organisation, effective immediately.

Currently working in an interim capacity, Buckley has been leading the organisation for the past two months. Her strategic vision and action oriented approach impressed the Board, while the Nominations Committee, who conducted the interview process, found her extensive knowledge of the sports landscape and the people first philosophy she outlined in her interviews showed her to be the lead candidate. 

WADA President calls on Governments to implement sanction framework for UNESCO’s International Convention Against Doping in Sport

The President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Witold Bańka, was in Paris today to address the 8th Session of the Conference of Parties to the UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport (Convention) being held from 26-28 October 2021. The Convention, which is the legal framework under which Governments can address anti-doping issues, is the second most successful in the history of UNESCO, in terms of the pace of ratification, with only four countries of the world yet to Register.

Dr Valérie Fourneyron, the chair of the ITA Foundation Board, was honoured to address National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and representatives of the international sports movement at the 25th ANOC General Assembly. the focus was on the successful cooperation in the implementation of the independent anti-doping programme at the Olympic Games in Tokyo that the ITA had managed, the upcoming winter games in Beijing and increased cooperation regarding major continental events.

RFU announces bid to host Rugby World Cup in 2025

Since England last hosted the RWC in 2010 and won it in 2014, women’s rugby has grown exponentially with World Rugby stating the women’s game is the single biggest opportunity to grow the sport globally. 

The Red Roses are the number one ranked team in the world and the RFU has grown female participation in England from 13,000 to 40,000 registered players in clubs, with a growing pipeline of 80,000 girls playing in schools, colleges and universities.   

Another 57 people linked to football and sport evacuated from Afghanistan

Following another round of complex negotiations, FIFA can confirm that it has supported Qatar with the evacuation from Afghanistan of a second group of refugees linked to women’s football and basketball. A total of 57 individuals, mostly women and children, safely landed in Doha on Wednesday, 20 October, on a Qatar Airways charter flight. Last Thursday, 14 October, FIFA and Qatar successfully evacuated almost 100 members of the football family from Afghanistan to Doha, including female players. FIFA would like to express its sincere thanks to the government of Qatar for its support in facilitating extensive discussions and ensuring the safe passage of these individuals, deemed to have been at the highest risk.

Men’s and women’s professional road cycling: 48 teams have submitted required documents for registration in 2022

 

Women’s first division road teams and men’s first and second division road teams wishing to be registered for the 2022 season must submit their registration file to the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). The UCI then assesses, with external financial auditor PwC, whether the teams are in compliance with the UCI Regulations.

The NFL's Fall League Meeting has produced a handful of changes to the Rooney Rule.

A memo sent by the NFL to all 32 clubs and obtained by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero detailed policy changes enacted during Tuesday's session that were initially reported on Monday. Among those changes were an increase in the amount of external minority candidates required to be interviewed during a hiring process to fill vacancies at the executive level, as well as coordinator positions.

Independent complaint handling process confirmed for Football Australia

Sport Integrity Australia and Football Australia have today confirmed the details of an independent complaints and reports handling, investigation, and disciplinary framework. 

Under the framework, Sport Integrity Australia will consider complaints and reports on a range of allegations including abuse, bullying, child abuse, child grooming, endangering the safety of a child, harassment, sexual misconduct, unlawful discrimination, victimisation, and vilification at the elite levels of Australian football.

Leaked email shows unvaccinated players may be able to compete at Australian Open

A leaked email sent to WTA players has said that unvaccinated players may be able to travel to the country and compete after 14 days quarantine, contradicting advice from the Australian government.

Immigration minister Alex Hawke recently said unvaccinated players and those who would not reveal their vaccination status would not be allowed to enter Australia and therefore unable to compete in the Australian Open, the state of Victoria, where the tournament takes place, requires all professional athletes to be vaccinated to compete.

Recently, Professional Footballers Australia (the PFA) and the Australian Professional League announced a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) for the next five years. 65 suspicious betting alerts reported by IBIA in Q3 2021

he International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) reported 65 cases of suspicious betting to the relevant authorities during the third quarter (Q3) of 2021. The Q3 2021 total represents a 14% decrease compared to Q3 2020, which saw 76 alerts. The Q3 2021 alerts covered tennis (23 cases), football (18), table tennis (17), esports (2) and one each in handball, cricket, squash, basketball and futsal. From a geographical perspective, Europe accounted for nearly 60% of all alerts reported during Q3, followed by Asia with 15% and Africa 12%.

Council and shareholders approve board structure changes to increase independence

Our Board has unanimously recommended changes to its own structure to increase its overall independence. This was today approved by both our Council and Shareholders.

The new proposals will result in the appointment of two further independent Non-Executive Directors, increasing the current Board from 10 to 12 people. The new Board would therefore comprise of the Independent Chair, The FA CEO, four Independent Non-Executive Directors, three National Game Representatives and three Professional Game Representatives.

Retired male elite rugby union players aged 50+ who suffered three or more rugby-related concussions during their career have no worse average cognitive function than those who had experienced no, one or two concussions, according to a new study in Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association.

England Boxing Sub-committee Chair appointments

Following recent appointments to the England Boxing Board, several new sub-committees Chairs have now been confirmed.

Ian Ireland will head up the Competitions and Events / Championships Sub-Committee, with Micky Norford moving from that role to lead the Technical, Rule and R&J Sub-committee.

Amy Pu is the Chair of the Clubs, Membership and Development Sub-committee, while Ryan Vickers takes on the Talent Sub-committee, as well as being the anti-doping lead on the board.
