Amendments to the FIFA RSTP: Regulations Introduced For Trials Of Footballers
Clubs will no doubt be aware of the recently circulated October 2022 amendments to the FIFA Regulations on the Status of Transfer of Players (RSTP)1 which come into force on 16 November 2022.
This article looks specifically at the new regulations relating to trials included in the new Article 19 ter of the RSTP and supplemented by the Explanatory Notes provided by FIFA2. Previously, trials had not been covered by the RSTP in any detail, save in relation for confirmation that an Association was prohibited from requesting an International Transfer Certificate (ITC) in order to allow a player to participate in a trial. This prohibition remains in the updated RSTP, although the wording has been slightly amended to refer to “participating in friendly matches in the context of a trial3”.
