Sports lawyer in the spotlight: Brianna Quinn

For this edition of Sports Lawyer In The Spotlight, we interviewed Brianna Quinn who is a partner at Bird & Bird in Sydney, Australia. She represents sports clients in a wide range of matters, in particular when it comes to their regulatory, integrity, governance, and contractual affairs. She is also an arbitrator for the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (“BAT”), a member of the Ethics Board of the International Ice Hockey Federation (“IIHF”), and a Director of the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association (“ANSZLA”).
Brianna spent the last 12 years living and working in Switzerland, the home of many international sports federations and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (“CAS”). Over that period, she worked primarily in sport regulatory, governance, and contentious matters for international clients, including on their (for example) anti-doping, anti-corruption and match-fixing, safeguarding, disciplinary, and general regulatory/governance issues.
Having spent so long in Geneva she is now a dual citizen, but being originally from Australia she recently took the decision to make the move back to Sydney. This was made possible by Bird & Bird's global presence – so while she is working with Rich Hawkins in the firm's Australian sports practice, she also works closely with the London and wider international sport team and clients.
She is a member of LawInSport’s Editorial Board as well.
We sat down with Brianna in August 2023 for this interview. We hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did.
