Nepal, a small landlocked country located in the Himalayan mountains between India and China, has a rich culture of sports and physical activities. Sports have played a significant role in Nepalese society, with many local games and sports being played for centuries. However, with the growth of sports and the increasing commercialization of the industry, it has become essential to have laws and regulations in place to govern the sports industry. This is where Nepalese sports law comes in.

Nepalese sports law refers to the legal framework that governs sports-related activities in Nepal. The law sets out rules and regulations that govern different aspects of sports, such as player contracts, doping, match-fixing, and commercialization of sports.

Nepalese sports law is still in its early stages of development, and there is a need for a more comprehensive legal framework to govern the sports industry in the country. However, the existing laws provide some guidance to sports bodies, athletes, and other stakeholders in the industry.

The history of the sports regulation in Nepal is as follows:

  • First came the Sports Development Act 1992, which was repealed; and

  • Currently, we have the Sports Development Act 2021 which regulates sports administration in Nepal.
