Boxing India provisionally suspends Gujarat State Amateur Boxing Association

August 22 2014 – Despite Boxing India’s initiative during this phase, the Gujarat State Amateur Boxing Association (GSABA) has been uncooperative and has railroaded Boxing India’s efforts to shape the future of Indian boxing. In this vein, Boxing India has had to provisionally suspend the GSABA. Post the elections, the newly elected body will form the Dispute Commission will re-look at this matter and address the issue.

Since the International Boxing Association (AIBA) granted provisional approval to Boxing India in March 2014, the newly-ratified body has been working closely with all stakeholders to ensure all follow AIBA guidelines in the formation of a national boxing federation. Keeping in line with AIBA statutes, Boxing India will conduct fresh elections on September 11th 2014. All information with regards to the election procedure, the ratified constitution of Boxing India and the AIBA guidelines have been shared with the various state associations and units.

Boxing India would like to thank everyone for their continued support and efforts in putting the sport back on track in the country. Boxing has a fantastic future in India and once the newly elected body is in place, there will be a completely new packaging of the sport, which will ensure a seamless program from youth development to a national calendar for competitions and we need all states aligned towards this development agenda for the sport.
