Senior Legal Counsel - Newcastle United F.C.

Newcastle United is entering an exciting new chapter, and we’re looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to help shape our journey. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of sport, law, and business—offering the opportunity to lead on complex legal matters and contribute to the Club’s strategic growth.
About the Role
You’ll provide expert, business-focused legal advice across the Club, covering commercial contracts, football regulations, governance, and risk management. You’ll also mentor junior team members and help build a high-performing legal function.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate high-value commercial agreements (e.g. sponsorship, retail, IP).
- Advise on football regulatory compliance (Premier League, FA, UEFA, FIFA).
- Support governance processes, including board meetings and stakeholder communications.
- Manage litigation, assess legal risks, and improve legal operations.
- Deliver legal training and monitor regulatory developments.
- Lead strategic legal input on Club-wide initiatives.
- Liaise with external counsel on specialist matters.
About You
- Qualified solicitor with 6–10 years’ PQE.
- Strong commercial contracts experience, ideally in elite football or a top-tier law firm.
- Proven knowledge of football regulations and compliance.
- Clear communicator with the ability to simplify complex legal issues.
- Organised, detail-oriented, and collaborative.
- Flexible to support occasional out-of-hours commitments.
