Legal Counsel (3-5 Years PQE) - Sela Global Entertainment (based in London)

POSITION SUMMARY:

As the business continues to scale internationally, we are seeking a commercially astute Legal Counsel (3–5 years PQE) with strong broadcast, media rights, IP and data experience, particularly within content licensing, distribution and digital rights environments.

This is a business-facing legal role supporting Sela’s international media rights, content licensing and IP strategy. The successful candidate will join our in-house legal team to advise across broadcast rights, content production and distribution, IP protection, data compliance and digital media exploitation. The role requires a lawyer who is confident negotiating complex media and IP agreements, comfortable navigating multi-territory rights structures and capable of balancing legal risk with commercial opportunity in the media and entertainment space.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Media rights & content licensing agreements

  • Leading negotiation and drafting of content licensing, media partnership and distribution
  • Advising on rights exploitation, territorial restrictions, exclusivity and holdback provisions.
  • Advising on advertising compliance, data protection (GDPR/UK GDPR) and digital marketing

Broadcast & media rights

  • Drafting and negotiating broadcast, streaming and media rights agreements across multiple territories and platforms.
  • Advising on production, distribution, content licensing and OTT/digital platform
  • Advising on IP protection, trademark clearance, copyright ownership, content ownership and usage rights across all media.

Live events & content production

  • Drafting and negotiating production, supplier, talent and venue agreements for live event content.
  • Advising on risk allocation, indemnities and insurance structures.
  • Supporting event licensing and regulatory compliance.

Regulatory, data compliance & governance

  • Advising on compliance with governing body regulations, event frameworks, data protection laws and privacy requirements.
  • Managing disputes, claims and regulatory enquiries in conjunction with external counsel where appropriate.
  • Preparing Board-level summaries and risk briefings.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Essential

  • England & Wales qualified solicitor (or equivalent common law qualification).
  • 3–5 years PQE with strong commercial contracts experience.
  • Background in media, broadcast, IP, data protection or content licensing.
  • Demonstrable experience negotiating complex media rights, IP licensing or broadcast

Desirable

  • Experience advising on multi-territory media rights and content distribution strategies.
  • Confident engaging with senior executives and commercial teams.
  • Highly organised and capable of managing multiple high-value matters simultaneously.
  • Motivated by working within a dynamic, international sports and entertainment platform.
