Rick has a very strong sports practice and is highly regarded for offering expertise in the field of sports law. He is recommended by the legal directories as a leading junior barrister in the sports law arena and is described as “a talented performer in the courtroom”, “highly skilled, knows his brief and is not aggressive, but is certainly highly effective”, “proving himself to be a rising star at the Bar for horseracing cases” and “passionate about sport”.

His cases have spanned the following sports: athletics, basketball, boxing, football, horseracing, ice skating, motor racing, rowing, rugby union, and shooting.

He is instructed in both sports commercial disputes and sports disciplinary matters. His expertise and experience includes acting for the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) in cases involving corruption and financial impropriety (particularly cases involving inside information and online betting), acting for and advising World Rugby on various matters and representing athletes in selection disputes.

Rick also has extensive experience of acting for governing bodies and athletes in sport doping disputes. Rick has been retained by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) in a number of high profile doping appeals and has appeared in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). He has also represented footballers and rugby players before UK anti-doping tribunals.

Rick also has extensive experience of acting for governing bodies and athletes in sport doping disputes.
