FIFA publishes the 2021 edition of the Commentary on the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players

The first edition, published in 2007 by FIFA, was a tool to supplement the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP), which were first adopted in 2001 following cooperation and negotiations between FIFA and the European Commission.

The commentary on the RSTP is a crucial document which will support member associations, clubs, players, leagues and football legal experts in ensuring that the RSTP is applied consistently across the global football community.

WADA invites stakeholders to the eighth International Conference on Novel Psychoactive Substances

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to invite stakeholders to the eighth International Conference on Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS). The event, which will take place virtually from 17-19 November 2021, is jointly organized by WADA, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), the International Society for the Study of Emerging Drugs (ISSED), the University of Hertfordshire, and the Centre for Forensic Science Research and Education (CFSRE).

Sport Resolutions will operate and administer an ad hoc Independent Tribunal, composed of Sport Resolutions’ arbitrators, during the Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas in Prague, Czech between 1-6 November 2021, and during the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals in Madrid between 25 November - 5 December.

World Rugby establishes dedicated Women’s Player Welfare Steering Group

World Rugby has announced the establishment of a dedicated women’s player welfare steering group that will exclusively focus on the advancement of player welfare initiatives and interventions designed specifically for the women’s game at all levels.

Women’s rugby is growing globally at a rapid pace and, in line with its strategy to cement rugby as the most progressive sport on player welfare, World Rugby is committed to ensuring a dedicated focus on women’s welfare advancement, and not just replicate or adopt measures in place for the men’s game. This approach also supports the approach outlined in the transformational 2017-25 Women’s Plan.

The ITA is granted observer status of the Monitoring Group for the Council of Europe’s Anti-Doping Convention

The ITA had filed an application to be granted observer status earlier this year, and it was unanimously confirmed by the parties to the Anti-Doping Convention in July 2021. The Monitoring Group of the Convention surveys its application, examines any necessary modifications, holds consultations with any necessary stakeholders, recommends the appropriate measures to keep relevant organisations and the public informed about the activities undertaken within its framework and makes any proposal to improve its effectiveness. The Group also approves the list of pharmacological classes of doping agents and doping methods and the criteria for the accreditation of laboratories.

To mark National Children’s Week, Sport Integrity Australia has today launched its inaugural Child Safeguarding in Sport Induction e-Learning course.

The e-Learning course complements the National Integrity Framework Child Safeguarding Policy and has been developed for any person and any organisation who is bound by the policy, such as National Sporting Organisations (NSOs), State Sporting Organisations (SSOs), clubs/affiliated bodies, boards, committees, participants, employees, coaches, contractors, officials, and support personnel.

As part of a circulatory vote that ended yesterday, the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA’s)  Executive Committee (ExCo) approved the 7 October recommendation from the Agency’s independent Compliance Review Committee (CRC) to add the following three National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs) to the compliance ‘watchlist’[1]:

• German Community of Belgium;
• Montenegro; and
• Romania.

CGF appoint new Ethics Officer and new Commission members

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) extended their memorandum of understanding (MoU) to further strengthen the cooperation between the two organisations in fighting corruption and crime in sport.

Athletics coach Rana Reider to be investigated over sexual misconduct claims

Athletics coach Rana Reider set to be investigated by the US Center for SafeSport after multiple complaints of sexual misconduct were made against him.

Reider is a well renowned athletics trainer as he has trained multiple World and Olympic Champions including Tokyo 2020 Olympic 200m gold medallist Andre de Grasse and two-time Olympic champion Christian Taylor.

IPC General Assembly to be held remotely

The IPC General Assembly set for 11-12 December 2021 in Chinese Taipei will now be held remotely after the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) was informed by national authorities in the host country that all attendees would need to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival.

Since Chinese Taipei was awarded the General Assembly in June, the Local Organising Committee NPC Chinese Taipei has been developing COVID-19 countermeasures to ensure the health and safety of all attendees.  The NPC felt they were very near agreement with the authorities on a bubble system for the General Assembly. However, upon speaking directly with the national authorities on Tuesday, the IPC were informed that all General Assembly delegates would in fact have to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. This is a non-practical solution for all concerned and the IPC has now decided to stage the event online.

World Athletics Half Marathon Championships in Yangzhou postponed until November 2022

World Athletics and the local organising committee (LOC) for the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships Yangzhou 2022 have agreed to postpone the championships, which were scheduled to be held in Yangzhou, China, on 27 March 2022.

Genius Sports is currently awaiting its full license authorization.

Alexander Bryukhankov sanctioned with three-year suspension after a positive doping case

World Triathlon has imposed a period of ineligibility of three years on Russian triathlete Alexander Bryukhankov for the presence of EPO in his urine sample on an in-competition doping control on 19 June, 2021, at the Europe Triathlon Sprint & Relay Championships in Kitzbuhel, Austria, in which he finished in the 5th place in the Final B.

Sportsflare joins ESIC as an Anti-Corruption Supporter

Sportsflare is the latest company to join ESIC in its fight against betting fraud and corruption in esports, joining over 40 Anti-Corruption Supporters around the world. Sport Integrity Australia: play it fair online

Sport Integrity Australia, together with 23 other major sporting organisations from around Australia, has teamed with the eSafety Commissioner to help combat online abuse in sport.

According to CEO David Sharpe, the agency joined the collective in signing the Online Safety Statement of Commitment as there is no place for abuse – whether it’s on the sporting field, off the field, or online.

Bertomeau 'to step down' as Euroleague CEO after six clubs vote to dismiss him

Euroleague Basketball chief executive Jordi Bertomeu will leave his position at the end of the season after six of the basketball club competition’s 11 shareholder teams voted to dismiss him.

In a teleconference including all eleven of the league’s shareholders, six clubs voted to oust the Catalan executive while five voted to keep him on, according to multiple reports.

IIHF Council meeting concludes
