Athletics coach Rana Reider to be investigated over sexual misconduct claims

Athletics coach Rana Reider set to be investigated by the US Center for SafeSport after multiple complaints of sexual misconduct were made against him.

Reider is a well renowned athletics trainer as he has trained multiple World and Olympic Champions including Tokyo 2020 Olympic 200m gold medallist Andre de Grasse and two-time Olympic champion Christian Taylor.

The IPC General Assembly set for 11-12 December 2021 in Chinese Taipei will now be held remotely after the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) was informed by national authorities in the host country that all attendees would need to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival.

Since Chinese Taipei was awarded the General Assembly in June, the Local Organising Committee NPC Chinese Taipei has been developing COVID-19 countermeasures to ensure the health and safety of all attendees.  The NPC felt they were very near agreement with the authorities on a bubble system for the General Assembly. However, upon speaking directly with the national authorities on Tuesday, the IPC were informed that all General Assembly delegates would in fact have to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. This is non-practical solution for all concerned and the IPC has now decided to stage the event online.

Genius Sports Limited (NYSE: GENI) (“Genius Sports”), the official data, technology and commercial partner that powers the ecosystem connecting sports, betting and media, announced today that it has been certified by the State of Louisiana Gaming Control Board as Sports Wagering Service Provider for an initial six months. Genius Sports is currently awaiting its full license authorization.

NFL teams can now interview head coaching candidates during last two weeks of season

The NFL's Fall League Meeting has produced a handful of changes to the Rooney Rule.

A memo sent by the NFL to all 32 clubs and obtained by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero detailed policy changes enacted during Tuesday's session that were initially reported on Monday. Among those changes were an increase in the amount of external minority candidates required to be interviewed during a hiring process to fill vacancies at the executive level, as well as coordinator positions.

FIFA awards key media rights to FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ in the Netherlands

FIFA has awarded free-to-air media rights to key matches of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ to public service broadcaster NOS in the Netherlands. NOS will show twenty-five matches of the tournament, including the opening match, any Dutch national team matches and the key matches of the knock-out stage on its leading NPO channels. NOS has previously achieved extremely high audiences for women’s football, including the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019™, the final of which was followed by around 5.5 million viewers (with 88% audience market share).

Bertomeau 'to step down' as Euroleague CEO after six clubs vote to dismiss him

Euroleague Basketball chief executive Jordi Bertomeu will leave his position at the end of the season after six of the basketball club competition’s 11 shareholder teams voted to dismiss him.

In a teleconference including all eleven of the league’s shareholders, six clubs voted to oust the Catalan executive while five voted to keep him on, according to multiple reports.

The International Testing Agency (ITA) has been granted observer status with the monitoring group of the Anti-Doping Convention of the Council of Europe. The convention lays down binding rules on the 47 member states of the Council of Europe and 5 other states (Australia, Belarus, Canada, Morocco, and Tunisia) with a view to harmonise anti-doping regulations and to promote the important role of sport in moral and physical education as well as in international understanding.

World Rugby has announced the establishment of a dedicated women’s player welfare steering group that will exclusively focus on the advancement of player welfare initiatives and interventions designed specifically for the women’s game at all levels.

Women’s rugby is growing globally at a rapid pace and, in line with its strategy to cement rugby as the most progressive sport on player welfare, World Rugby is committed to ensuring a dedicated focus on women’s welfare advancement, and not just replicate or adopt measures in place for the men’s game. The ITA is granted observer status of the Monitoring Group for the Council of Europe’s Anti-Doping Convention

The ITA had filed an application to be granted observer status earlier this year, and it was unanimously confirmed by the parties to the Anti-Doping Convention in July 2021. The Monitoring Group of the Convention surveys its application, examines any necessary modifications, holds consultations with any necessary stakeholders, recommends the appropriate measures to keep relevant organisations and the public informed about the activities undertaken within its framework and makes any proposal to improve its effectiveness. The Group also approves the list of pharmacological classes of doping agents and doping methods and the criteria for the accreditation of laboratories.

The e-Learning course complements the National Integrity Framework Child Safeguarding Policy and has been developed for any person and any organisation who is bound by the policy, such as National Sporting Organisations (NSOs), State Sporting Organisations (SSOs), clubs/affiliated bodies, boards, committees, participants, employees, coaches, contractors, officials, and support personnel.

COMPLIANCE REVIEW COMMITTEE ALSO MET ON 24-25 OCTOBER

As part of a circulatory vote that ended yesterday, the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA’s)  Executive Committee (ExCo) approved the 7 October recommendation from the Agency’s independent Compliance Review Committee (CRC) to add the following three National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs) to the compliance ‘watchlist’[1]:

  • German Community of Belgium;
  • Montenegro; and
  • Romania.
