It was a historic week for both the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) and the China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2020 last week, as the sole esports governing body in Asia officially took part in the annual trade co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Shanghai Municipal Government.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has issued its decision in the appeal arbitration procedures filed by the player Saman Ghoddos and Östersunds FK Elitfotboll AB (Östersunds) against the decision rendered by the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber dated 14 June 2019 (the Challenged Decision). In such decision, Saman Ghoddos was found to have unilaterally terminated his employment contract with SD Huesca and ordered, together with Östersunds, to jointly and severally pay compensation of EUR 4 million to SD Huesca.

The future of athletes in the decision-making process in sport panel takes place on 12 November 2020 at 2pm GMT/9am EST.  The panel will discuss athlete activism and empowerment, looking at what the future role of athletes in decision-making processes looks like.  Athletes' views have often been a second or tertiary consideration, particularly where it’s not mandated via a collective-bargaining agreement.  But have recent global events including the black lives matter movement and campaigns against the IOC’s Rule 50 started to change the status quo?

Bingoal continues IBIA membership growth

Belgian-based retail and online gambling company Bingoal has joined the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA). It will see the operator incorporate its sportsbook operation with IBIA’s global betting integrity monitoring and alert platform. Bingoal will share information on suspicious betting with around 85 other leading betting brands, further expanding the scope of the world’s largest betting integrity platform. It becomes the fifth new member to join IBIA in 2020, following five new members in 2019.

US Supreme Court rejects NFL appeal against antitrust lawsuit

The US Supreme Court has refused an NFL and AT&T Inc’s DirecTV appeal which called for the court to overrule a lower court decision to revive a lawsuit that accuses them of overcharging for a satellite television package, meaning the lawsuit can move forward.

AFC Club Licensing Task Force agree to raise standards with new regulations
