AIU Statement On The Alex Schwazer Matter
07 APRIL 2022, MONACO: The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) have carried out additional investigations into allegations made by Judge Pelino from the Bolzano region of Italy that Mr Alex Schwazer’s urine sample collected by World Athletics on 1 January 2016 had ‘likely been manipulated’. A study involving the analysis of urinary DNA concentrations of 100 samples from male endurance athletes conducted by the Forensic Genetic Unit in Lausanne, Switzerland and a report from the leading international anti-doping scientist, Professor Martial Saugy from the University of Lausanne, together conclusively explain why the manipulation scenario cited by Judge Pelino is wholly implausible and incorrect.
