Bobsleigher banned for two years following anti-doping rule violation
UK Anti-Doping has today confirmed that British Bobsleigh Association athlete Simon Carty has been suspended from all competition for two years following an anti-doping rule violation.
Mr Carty tested positive for clenbuterol* following an out-of-competition test on 28 February and was provisionally suspended from 4 April 2012.
The athlete is banned until midnight on 3 April 2014. The full written decision can be found on the UK Anti-Doping website at www.ukad.org.uk/violations/.
Chief Executive Andy Parkinson said "Athletes are responsible for anything found in their system, and are subject to testing at any time."
"UK Anti-Doping operates a robust, intelligence led, testing programme 365 days a year. Athletes can be tested anywhere, whether in or out-of-competition, and must therefore exercise extreme caution over what they put into their body."
*Clenbuterol is classed as a beta 2 agonist and is banned under the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Prohibited List under category S1 Anabolic agents due to its potential to increase muscle mass. Anecdotal evidence suggests that clenbuterol can increase muscle mass while simultaneously reducing body fat. It may potentially be beneficial in increasing the power/weight ratio in sports that have weight categories.
