Boxer Bradley Watson banned for two years

Professional boxer Bradley Watson has been banned from all sport for a period of two years following a first Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) for the presence of a banned substance.
UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) collected a urine sample from Mr Watson In-Competition on 28 September 2019 following his bout with Khvicha Gigolashvili at York Hall, London. Analysis of Mr Watson’s A Sample returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) for clomifene.
Clomifene is a hormone modulator and is banned at all times.
Hamish Coffey, UKAD Deputy Director of Operations said: “Clomifene is a drug which can increase a male athlete’s testosterone levels and is rightly banned from all sport.
“In contact sports like boxing, there are serious potential consequences to your opponent if you take this type of drug. It’s not a wise decision to take these drugs and I hope this case is a reminder to other athletes of the cost of these choices.”
UKAD issued Mr Watson with a Notice of Charge and a Provisional Suspension on 4 December 2019. Mr Watson admitted the ADRV and explained that the AAF was the result of self-medicating an apparent medical condition. As he admitted that he had taken the drug without delay, Mr Watson’s two-year ban started on 28 September 2019 and will expire at midnight on 27 September 2021.
