Commonwealth Sport Foundation makes key appointments
The Commonwealth Sport Foundation, the charitable foundation of the Commonwealth Sport Movement, has made three key appointments to help support its mission to help address some of the world's greatest challenges.
Vicky Lowe will become the Interim Director of the Foundation through to the conclusion of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Vicky takes up the post as a secondment from her current position at leading sports-based charity, Laureus Sport for Good, where she is Global Development Director.
She brings significant charity and corporate experience to the role having held key positions at Barclays, Saracens Sports Foundation and is a current Board member for UK based sport for development charity The Change Foundation.
The Foundation has also recruited a new Head of Safeguarding with Claudia Villa-Hughes to take up the post.
Claudia will join the Foundation from children’s charity Barnardo's, where she held a number of roles that included a specific focus on serious safeguarding incidents, hidden harm, child abuse and exploitation.
Claudia previously held roles at the International Organisation for Migration/UN Migration Agency, Learning Links and the British Red Cross, while the new Head of Safeguarding position will be fully funded by Oak Foundation.
In addition to the Management Team appointments, the Foundation has confirmed Gurpreet Bhatia as a new Trustee.
Gurpreet is a nominee of the Birmingham 2022 Chair John Crabtree and will ensure that the Foundation’s work alongside and in support of the Games host city is fully maximised. A solicitor and Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands, he will join the Foundation’s Board of Trustees led by Chair Christian Brodie and Vice Chair Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson. The Board also includes CGF President Dame Louise Martin, Vice President Chris Jenkins, who leads the CGF Development Committee, and Dr Jeya Wilson.
Vicky, Claudia and Gurpreet will be taking up their positions this month.

Gurpreet will be a fantastic addition to the Board of Trustees and play a key role in helping us ensure we maximise on our partnership with Birmingham 2022 in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games next year.”
