El Nasr player suspended for anti-doping violation

The CAF Disciplinary Board at its meeting on 8 March 2020 has decided to suspend El Nasr player Khalid Al Maryam for three months (from an initial two years, of which 21 months are suspended) for anti-doping violation during the Total CAF Confederation Cup 2019/20 match between El Nasr (Libya) and Bidvest Wits (South Africa).

The Libyan tested positive for ‘11-nor-9-Carboxy-delta-THC’ a prohibited substance following doping test carried out during the match played on 12 January 2020 in Cairo (Egypt), and the sanctions were handed in accordance with the CAF Statutes, FIFA Anti-Doping Regulations and Articles 10, 11, 43.1, 46 and 77 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

The suspension takes effect from 27 February 2020 till 27 May 2020.

The relevant parties have been duly notified of the decision, and appeals can be lodged within three days of receiving the notification.
