FIFA publishes International Transfer Market Snapshot

FIFA

Today, FIFA published its International Transfer Market Snapshot June-October 2020, an analysis of player transfer activity during the transfer window that closed on Monday.

It is the first time that FIFA has created and published such an overview of global transfers involving both male and female players immediately after the conclusion of the international transfer window.

The Snapshot gives a brief overview of transfer activity between June and October, taking into account the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, both on the extended deadline for deals to be struck and the willingness of clubs to engage in the market.

Commenting on the Snapshot, Emilio García Silvero, FIFA’s Chief Legal and Compliance Officer, said: “For the first time in the last decade, the number of player transfers declined, while there was also a sharp decrease in the size of the transfer fees paid out by clubs (men’s football). Meanwhile, we are greatly encouraged that, despite the current circumstances, player transfers in women’s football globally slightly increased, both in terms of the number of transfers and fees paid.”
