Track and field athlete receives sanction
Sport Integrity Australia acknowledges the decision of Athletics Australia to impose a four-year ban on athlete Jessica Peris for the Presence and Use of prohibited substances.
Ms Peris returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) from an out-of-competition doping control test on 18 October 2017 for the Presence of prohibited substances, namely exogenous Androsterone, Etiocholanolone and 5β-androstane-3α,17β-diol.
It was determined that the athlete Used a Prohibited Substance, namely Dehydroepiandrosterone, on and/or before 18 October 2017.
The delay in the resolution of this case was due to the athlete seeking a hearing in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). Specifically, the:
- AAT handed down its decision on 17 June 2020. The AAT’s decision is available here.
- CAS proceedings were terminated by the CAS on 25 August 2020.
Ms Peris is ineligible to participate in any sports that have adopted a World Anti-Doping Code compliant anti-doping policy until 22 January 2022. She is also not permitted to compete in a non- signatory professional league, or event organised by a non-signatory International or National level event organisation.
