U.S. WeightliftingAthlete Josue Cano Receives Sanction for Anti-Doping Rule Violation

USADA announced today that Josue Cano, of Oxnard, Calif, an athlete in the sport of weightlifting, has received a four-year sanction for an anti-doping rule violation after his refusal to provide a urine sample.
Cano, 42, refused to provide a sample as requested by a USADA doping control officer during an out-of-competition test on July 18, 2019.
Evading sample collection, or refusing or failing to submit to sample collection, without compelling justification, is an anti-doping rule violation under the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing, the United States Olympic Committee National Anti-Doping Policies, and the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Anti-Doping Policy, all of which have adopted the World Anti-Doping Code and the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List.
Cano’s four-year period of ineligibility began on September 26, 2019, the date his sanction was imposed. In addition, Cano has been disqualified from competitive results obtained on and subsequent to July 18, 2019, the date he refused to submit a sample, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes.
